To ensure the performance and safety of your motorcycle, regular maintenance is essential. From tire pressure to brake checks to chain lubrication, here are the key steps to keeping your two-wheeler in perfect condition. Check tire pressure and condition
Tires are, of course , a key element in the safety of a two-wheeler. It is advisable to regularly check their condition and, if replacing them , to follow the recommendations of the manufacturer of your motorcycle or scooter.
Tires have various markings on their sidewalls , such as the letter E for those approved in Europe, the dimensions, the commercial name, etc. Some are specific, such as TL, for a TubeLess tire without an inner tube, or TT, for TubeType with an inner tube. In recent years, manufacturers have expanded their ranges of motorcycle tires: you can therefore find models adapted to your vehicle but also to your needs, depending on whether you prioritize longevity or grip, and to the different types of terrain (mud, sand, stones, etc.) that you will be faced with.
Check your tire pressure every two weeks using a pressure gauge to avoid over- or under-inflation, which can lead to loss of grip, faster wear and increased fuel consumption.
Allow the tire to warm up by driving at low speed for a few kilometers.
Good to know
For optimal cleaning of your tires and rims, visit a Wash station to use our high-pressure washing services.
Check the chain tension and lubrication
Properly maintained, it ensures efficient transmission of power from the engine to the rear wheel and extends the life of your chain kit.
Also remember to lubricate your chain every 500 km or so , after each wash or after riding in the rain. A quality lubricant, such as TotalEnergies ELF Motorcycle Chain Lube , protects your chain from corrosion and wear.
Inspect the brakes
A complete check-up of your two-wheeler obviously involves checking the braking system . In recent years, the brake disc/pad duo has become the standard, replacing the drum system. Brake pads can be made of organic material, sintered metal, or even carbon for sport bikes. And brake fluid is of capital importance : it is thanks to it that the calipers will apply pressure on the discs when you operate the lever.
